I attended Briar Cliff University from 1998-2002 and graduated with a double major in Biology and Secondary Education with a minor in Chemistry. I landed my first job at Elgin Public and have been here ever since. In 2004 I enrolled in a Master’s Program through Wayne State College and earned my degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2006.
I was born and raised in Newcastle, NE on a farm. I grew up in the traditional “small family farm” atmosphere and loved it. I graduated from Newcastle Public School and headed off to college. I now live in Elgin with my husband, TJ and our five children: Luke in 4th grade, Emily in 1st, Hailey in kindergarten, 2-year old Isaac, and our baby, Megan. Science is a passion for me, both in teaching and in my home life. I love to garden and enjoy being around animals; I take pleasure in nature all around. Other passions of mine include reading and writing. During the summer I also enjoy helping my husband work on his derby pickup!
While teaching I strive to make every student an active and necessary part of the class. We all need each other to learn and we learn best when everybody helps each other. I try to make class relevant to each student’s life and open up possibilities for them in the future. I also encourage students to have fun; learning is a great experience so we try to laugh a lot in class as we explore new ideas! Finally, I am passionate about students learning the importance of education, not only for future careers, but also for the betterment of themselves.
