Elementary Art

Houses

The Elementary Art students are currently drawing houses.  We started off sketching outside but quickly discovered that didn't work so well when Allen was mowing.  So, we decided to work from photographs.  You may have noticed me taking photos on my way to work a few weeks ago.  I photographed several of my neighbors homes and printed them off for students to draw from.

The students have spent a few weeks sketching on newsprint with H pencils. They practiced drawing the houses from an angle to show the front and side of the building. After completing the structure they focused on details such as siding, shingles and steps to name a few.  The last step was to add background such as trees, bushes and sidewalks before starting their formal drawing.

They are rendering their formal drawings with colored pencil.  The younger students (K-2) will color their house while the older grades (3-6) will shade their drawing to look 3-D. They should finish by the end of the quarter.

Stay tuned for slide shows of their work.
