Mrs. Eisenhauer discussing her research

Mrs. Eisenhauer Completes Master's Degree!

REWARDS

by Rita Heithoff

April 09, 2008

Mrs. Eisenhauer will graduate from Wayne State College on May 3rd with Master's of Science Degree in Curriculum Development,  She has spent the last two years developing and researching her topic.  She and her classmates presented their research at their Capstone Fair at the Lifelong Learning Center at NECC in Norfolk on Sunday, April 6th.

Effects of REWARDS Reading

The purpose of my study was to describe the effects of a reading supplemental program called REWARDS (Reading Excellence: Word Attack and Rate Development Strategies) on oral reading fluency and student attitudes toward reading in the Title I classroom with fourth through sixth grade students.  Data was collected through surveys, teacher observations, and student work.  Students completed lessons from the REWARDS reading program throughout the research time period.  The data showed that most students’ oral reading fluency rates made progress over the period of August to December.  The data also showed that students’ attitudes toward reading were more positive and they felt more comfortable reading larger words.
