2008 Niobrara Valley Conference Art Show

at Verdigre

Linsey's Horse Eye

The Elgin High 8-12 Art students traveled to Verdigre Friday, April 25th (and the 28th) to compete in the annual NVC Art Show.  We braved rain, sleet, slush and snow to travel north to hang our work.  The judges not sharing our adventurous spirit, stayed home and I can't blame them.  We hung the show anyway and the judges came on Saturday to judge the artwork.  Judging the high school artwork were Jim Taylor, former art teacher and professional photographer of Stuart and Deb Fonder of Norfolk Public Schools.  Serving as judge for the junior high work was Teri Schacht of Orchard who serves as the art consultant at the ESU #8.

After the students hung their work they participated in a workshop by "The Simpsons" cartoonist, Mark Ervin.  Mr. Ervin showed examples of his cartoon work and his own personal artwork.  He explained the cartooning process involved in "The Simpsons".  Students were allowed to ask questions afterwards and Mr. Erwin demonstrated some of his drawing skills.

We began the trip home after the workshop.  We finally saw a snowplow, along with a wide load that required us to pull off the road let it pass.  We also had to wait to go around emergency equipment a couple of miles out of town for the Walmart semi in the ditch.  But we arrived safe and sound back home to wait for the journey back on Monday to view the ribbon awards and bring our work home.

After taking down all of the work, packing it up and loading the van (minus an extra student) we headed back to Elgin.  We had to watch out for peacocks, giraffes, buffalo and unicorns but we made it home. ( you had to be there)
