Special May School Board Meeting

President Heithoff called the Special May 20, 2008 Elgin Public School Board Meeting to order at 8 PM. Board members present were Steve Heithoff, Laurie Waterbury, Mary Bauer, and Scott Beckman. Stan Heithoff and Bruce Anderson were absent. Also present were Principal Fisher and Dennis Morgan of the Elgin Review.
The purpose of the special meeting was to authorize Mr. Fisher to carry out any superintendent duties in Dr. Fredrickson’s absence due to illness and discuss personnel matters.
President Heithoff reminded everyone that a copy of the Nebraska open meeting law was posted in the meeting room.
School board meeting notice complied with Meeting Notice Policy # 204.07.
Waterbury moved to excuse Stan Heithoff and Anderson from the meeting. Bauer second. Motion passed 4 to 0 yes. Steve Heithoff-yes, Waterbury-yes, Bauer-yes, Beckman-yes.
Bauer moved, Waterbury seconded to adopt the agenda as presented. Motion passed on a 4 to 0-yes vote.
Beckman moved, Waterbury second, to authorize Principal Fisher to carry out the duties of the superintendent during Superintendent Gayla Fredrickson’s absence, and to take such actions, prepare reports, and sign such documents as may be necessary to carry out those duties until Superintendent Fredrickson’s return. Motion passed with a unanimous 4 to 0 yes vote.
Beckman then moved to enter closed session to discuss personnel, to protect the public interest and to prevent the needless injury to the reputation of an individual, and that no individual has requested a public meeting. Bauer second. Motion passed on a 4 to 0 yes vote.
President Heithoff then restated the motion, that the Board will enter closed session for teacher negotiations to protect the public interest and to prevent the needless injury to the reputation of an individual, and that no individual has requested a public meeting.
The Board entered closed session for personnel discussion at 8:10 PM.
The Board returned to open session at 9:02 PM.
Bauer moved, Beckman seconded to adjourn the Special May 20, 2008 School Board Meeting at 9:04 PM. Motion passed with a 4 to 0 yes vote.
