S9-4 Writing chemical formulas

Follow the directions below to help you learn to write chemical formulas.

1.  Click on the link:  http://www.syvum.com/squizzes/chem/

2.  Scroll down and click on "Elements with Positive Valencies"

3.  At the top of this new page, click on "Read Theory. . ."  Read this page to review.  They use the terms "monovalent" (+1 oxidation charge), "divalent" (+2 oxidation charge), and "trivalent" (+3 oxidation charge).

4.  When you have finished, click on the first "Practice exercise. . ." listed at the bottom of the page.  You will be brought back to your game page.  Choose a game to play.

5.  Play the game a few times until you can continually win.  If you do not understand it at this point, be sure to ask for help!

6.  When you feel comfortable with that topic, move on to the others.  To do this, click on the link above again.  Follow the same procedures as above for these other topics (read theory, play game, ask for help if needed!): "Radicals with negative valencies" (you will not know some of these), "Chemical compounds," and "Chemical Formulae of Compounds."
