National Walk at Lunch Day
Elgin Elementary encourages everyone to

make healthy lifestyle choices throughout the day. Staying active is

one of the most important choices you can make to stay in shape.

We invite you to get active with us and walk at lunch Wed., April 29.

On this day, Elgin Elementary is participating in Blue

Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska’s 9th annual National Walk at Lunch Day®.
 

Join us as we walk together for a 30-minute walk during our recess. 

 

By our school walking at lunch, Blue Cross and Blue Shield will donate $20 to the Nebraska Game and Parks Foundation and Special Olympics.

 

Bring your walking shoes!!!

 

The Elgin Public-Pope John football players will be selling football clothing until April 29th. Please contact a football player to order your new clothing.

Any high school students or adults who are interested in umping summer softball games for the 14 and under and 12 and under girls, please contact Jessie Reestman. 843-0170.  It pays $35 per game. You will need to become certified, but that should not consist of much--she will get you details if you are interested. Great opportunity to make some money in a short amount of time.

 

Speech Team members, remember that the Bergman's are having a speech team dinner this Sunday. Please sign up on the Google doc that Zoey shared indicating how many family members including yourself will be attending. See Zoey for any additional details.

Natural resources- Dylan Widger, Zoey Bergman, Ellianne Heilhecker, Kalin Henn- 17th place team, Elianne earned a purple ribbon.
Welding - Andrew Fangman was 6th overall in MIG welding and received a purple.
Farm business management- Kyle Heithoff earned a blue ribbon.
Agronomy- Seth Schumacher and Tanner W. Both relieved a blue ribbon. 
Agriscience- Lydia Behnk, Cole Preister, Calli Krebs, Liam Heithoff were the 11th place team out of 107 teams. Calli received purple while Lydia and Liam both received blue ribbons. 

 

Leadership Skills Events:
Marie Meis made finals in a group of 24 and was State Runner-Up in Creed Speaking. 
Karissa D. made finals in a group of 24 and was State Runner-Up in Cooperative Speaking.

Both girls are alternates to Nationals and received a cash prize.

Congratulations to the speech team on an outstanding representation at the State Speech Championships!

  • The OID team of Christopher, Alois, Kenny and Jaime earned 4th place medals. They were in the top 4 of the 18 teams that qualified for the state meet in D2.

 

  • Lisa Dohmen placed 7th in Humorous Prose, just narrowly missing the finals round. A few other events were very close to breaking finals as well.

Congratulations to the EPS Speech Team, NVC East Runners-up! The team brought home the 2nd place plaque, as well as fourteen medals.

  • OID members Christopher Bush, Alois Warner, Kenny Bush, and Jaime Hoefer were crowed Conference Champions.
  • The Duet of Alois Warner and Zoey Bergman were Conference Runners-up.
  • The Duet of Ethan Fischer and Kenny Bush earned third place medals.
  • Dylan Widger brought home the third place medal in Poetry.
  • Katie Polk also received a third place medal in Serious Prose.
  • Paige Nichols received the 4th place medal in Entertainment.
  • Tyler Smith earned the fifth place medal in Entertainment.

Congratulations to the EPS Speech Team for placing first as a team and earning the Championship plaque at the PJ Speech Festival on Saturday.  Individually, the team also brought home 19 medals in the following events.

FFA Week is almost over. Today, everyone will get ice cream when they are finished with lunch. It will be dished up by FFA officers. 

 

Teachers - The FFA coloring contest will be extended to next week. FFA members will collect papers on Monday from EPS, and Tuesday from PJ. If you are already done, great you can give it to any FFA member.

 

FFA members - The greenhouse plants will arrive today. Just like every year, please come to the ag room and sign up for 2 shifts to come in on the weekends/no school days to water the plants. There are morning and late afternoon shifts. This weekend and the first weekend in March are covered so hurry in if you have a specific weekend you want to work!

 

Juniors and Sophomores need to bring their laptops (and charges) to the high school lab at the end of 2nd hour!!  Thank you!

Congratulations to Baylee Busteed, Mrs. Siems, and Alois Warner who correctly guessed the closest on the commodity jars in their division. 

Baylee guessed 356 for the corn and the correct answer was 457. Mrs. Siems guessed 1,675 for oats and the correct was 1,567 and Alois guessed 431 for the soybeans with the correct answer being 513.  You should have received your 5 lbs of gummy bears. And If you were smart you would share your winnings or hide them!

FFA FACT: FFA receives no federal funding.  The National FFA Organization is headquartered at the U.S. Department of Education. Its business center is at the National FFA Center in Indianapolis.

 

Congratulations to the speech team on an outstanding performance yesterday at the Newman Grove Invite.  The team placed fifth out of ten teams and brought home eight medals.

  • Lisa Dohmen placed 2nd in Humorous Prose.
  • The OID of Christopher Bush, Alois Warner, Kenny Bush and Jaime Hoefer placed 2nd.
  • Jaime Hoefer placed 3rd in Serious Prose.
  • The Duet of Ethan Fischer and Kenny Bush placed 3rd.

Superior Ratings were earned by the following:

  • Katie Polk-Serious Prose
  • Tyler Smith-Entertainment
  • Morgan Carpenter-Humorous Prose

Excellent Ratings were earned by the following:

Its FFA week and Today is Commodity Jar Day in Elgin! Everyone can guess the number of seeds in a jar to win a prize. Both schools will be combined so only 3 winners total. The jars will be placed near your school offices. Please write your guess and name on a small piece of paper provided and put it in the correct bucket.
