Boys Basketball will have a meeting this Thursday (May 5th) at 7:30 A.M. We will be meeting in the EPS gym. Those who are in 8th grade through Juniors should attend. 

 

ONCE AGAIN ------  It is unlawful to pass a stopped school bus when the stop sign is extended.   When the Pope John bus is parked at our school and the stop arm is extended, you cannot pass.  They are loading or unloading students and it is unlawful to pass the bus when the stop arm is extended.

Monday: Breakfast- Bacon Scrambled Square, pears   Lunch- Meaty Stromboli, lettuce salad, broccoli, orange slice, COOKIE

Tuesday: Breakfast- Pancakes, ham, pineapple   Lunch- Chicken Fried Steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, peaches, biscuit

Wednesday:  Breakfast-Cereal/oatmeal, long john, yogurt, banana   Lunch: Turkey Deli Wrap, potato salad, sliced tomatoes, apple.

 

FFA members NOT in after school sports are required to sign up and help with plant sales one evening Tuesday, May 10th - Friday May 13th(3:45 - closing times vary each night so notice that when you sign up). If you do not sign up, Mrs. Schwartz will track you down :)

The first ever Wolfpack yearbook is now on sale.  This is a softcover, 40 page, sports only yearbook.  All Wolfpack sports are covered including junior high sports, Dance and Cheerleading.  The books are $20.  

 

You may go on the EHS website under "Academics-Yearbook" to download a form or stop up at the EHS office to pick one up.  Fill out your form and return to Mrs. Heithoff with your payment.  The books will be delivered in August.  

Students may also purchase their yearbook online by going to www.entourageyearbooks.com .  Click on "buy", type in Elgin Public Schools and click on the second one to purchase the Wolfpack yearbook.

Preference will be given to American Degree recipients and National Proficiency Finalists. A maximum of 10 members may go. Have applications back before May 1st.

A dance team tryout sheet is posted in the offices of both schools.  Please sign up if interested in trying out for the 2016-2017 school year.  Practices and tryout dates are listed on the sheet.  

 

The Annual FFA Banquet will be held in the EPS gym Thursday, April 21st at 6:30pm. Freshmen and Sophomores are asked to bring a dessert and Juniors and Seniors are asked to bring a salad. Letters will be sent home with FFA members this week for parents to read.

The first ever Wolfpack yearbook is now on sale.  This is a softcover, 40 page, sports only yearbook.  All Wolfpack sports are covered including junior high sports, Dance and Cheerleading.  The books are $20.  

 

You may go on the EHS website under "Academics-Yearbook" to download a form or stop up at the EHS office to pick one up.  Fill out your form and return to Mrs. Heithoff with your payment.  The books will be delivered in August.  

Students may also purchase their yearbook online by going to www.entourageyearbooks.com .  Click on "buy", type in Elgin Public Schools and click on the second one to purchase the Wolfpack yearbook.

Congratulations to the 4th Grade Class for winning "Best of Show" on their totem pole at the ESU #8 Spring Art Show!!!!  They were competing against many other schools including Norfolk Public!  The EPS students had 20 entries in the show.  They earned 1 Best of Show, 15 Superiors (blues), 3 Excellents and 1 Honorable Mention.  Congratulations to all!  Check out the school webpage tomorrow to view their work.  ESU 8 Elementary Art Show (thru Tuesday)

Congratulations to the EPS Speech Team for bringing home the District Championship Plaque from the D2-2 Contest yesterday.  Eight events qualified for the state competition in Kearney next week.

Elgin FFA Members Excel at District CDE contests!

On Wednesday, March 2nd the Elgin FFA members competed in their District Career Development Events (CDE’s) at Northeast Community College.  Elgin’s FFA chapter had a tremendous showing with many teams qualifying for State FFA in April. Here are the qualifying teams and top 10 individuals from Elgin.

Ag Biotechnology – 2nd Place Team, Elianne Heilhecker , 1st overall individual, Dylan Widger was 5th overall.

Veterinary Science – 3rd Place Team, Zoey Bergman, 5th overall individual.

Floriculture – 2nd Place Team, Grace Henn, 5th overall individual, Heather Bauer, 6th overall individual, and Nicki Payne 7th overall individual.

Agronomy – 2nd Place Team. Seth Schumacher, 6th overall individual, Liam Heithoff, 8th overall individual.

Agriscience- 1st Place Team. Kyle Schumacher , 1st overall individual, Ally Wemhoff, 4th individual, Hunter Reestman, 7th, Kira Widger, 9th individual.

Farm Business Management – 3rd Place Team. Alois Warner, 3rd place overall individual, Dylan Behnk, 9th individual and Seth Schumacher was 10th overall.

Livestock Management – 4th place, Alternates to state. Members are: Trey Baum, Liz Selting, Marie Meis, Hayes Miller, Taralyn Baum and Calli Krebs.

Welding – Team members are Andrew Fangman (MIG), Liam Heithoff (O/A) and Chad Bode(ARC). The team did not qualify for state, but Chad was 1st place individual in ARC welding.

 

The Natural Resource team of: Kalin Henn, Karissa Dicke, Chase Preister, Geoffrey Carr, and Kenny Bush placed 3rd in the district. However, this is a non state qualifying event. But, in the case that they performed this well, four of these members will be competing at state.

Congratulations to the speech team on their third place team finish at the NVC East speech meet yesterday.

Two events were crowned conference champions! Alois and Kenny in Duet and Alois, Kenny, Zoey and Taya in OID.

Leslie was runner up in Entertainment Speaking

The OID of Dylan, Morgan, Leslie, Lydia and Kira placed third.

Dylan place fourth in poetry.

Sixth place medals went to the following:  Alois and Zoey-Duet, Lydia-Humorous Prose, Katie-Serious Prose and Persuasive.

Superior Ratings were earned by Kira Widger-Poetry and Shelby Dohmen-Humorous Prose

Congratulations to our busy speech team on some fantastic performances Friday and Saturday.  

Friday, the team placed 4th in their Lutheran High Northeast Eagle Classic debut. A season record eight events broke finals.
The team brought home top honors in three events. 

Placing first were the following:

 Alois Warner and Kenny Bush--Duet

Alois, Kenny, Taya, Zoey, and Jaime--OID

Leslie--Entertainment Speaking

Earning a third place medal was Jaime--Serious Prose

Placing 5th was Dylan W.--Poetry

Sixth place medals went to Shelby-Humorous Prose and Zoey and Taya-Duet

Superior Ratings were earned by Ingvild -Entertainment Speaking, Kira, Dylan,  Lydia, Leslie and Morgan-OID, Katie-Persuasive Speaking and Serious Prose, Lydia-Humorous Prose, and  Brea-Poetry.
 

On Saturday, the team brought home five champions, four runners up and three third place finishes, resulting in a runners-up performance as a team at the Pope John Festival.Results are as follows:

Congratulations to the speech team on a fourth place team finish out of fifteen teams on Friday at the Lindsay Holy Family Invite.

The OID of Alois Warner, Kenny Bush, Taya Voborny, Jaime Hoefer and Zoey Bergman placed second out of sixteen OID's.

The Duet of Alois Warner and Kenny Bush placed third out of twenty-four Duets.

 The OID team of Dylan Widger, Katie Polk, Morgan Carpenter, Lydia Behnk and Kira Widger placed fourth.

 The Duet of Taya Voborny and Zoey Bergman placed fifth.

 Lydia Behnk's Humorous Prose placed fifth out of twenty-two.

Jamie Hoefer's Serious Prose placed sixth out of twenty-one.

 

Superior ratings were earned in the following events:  Shelby Dohmen-Humorous Prose, Kira Widger-Poetry, Brea Carr-Poetry, Katie Polk-Serious Prose and Persuasive Speaking, Dylan Widger-Poetry.

 

Ingvild Bekkeseth earned an excellent rating in Entertainment Speaking.

The first grade class and FCCLA will be having a food drive during the EPPJ and Humphrey/LHF basketball game on January 28.   They are collecting food for the local food pantry in celebration of their 100th day of school. They are asking for help from everyone.   Anyone wanting to donate can bring food to the basketball game.

K-12 students from EPPJ will get in free if they donate a food item.

 

THURSDAY ----- the boys basketball team will be hosting a soup/chili cook-out during the ballgames.  Sample the soups, vote for your favorite, grab a bowl to enjoy!   $5.00 for Adults and $3.00 for Children under age 10

Congratulations to all the FFA members on their performances last Wednesday at the district Leadership Skills Events. 

Qualifying for state were: 

Trey Baum and Lexie Heithoff in Agricultural Demonstration- 1st

Marie Meis in Natural Resource speaking - 1st

Liz Selting in Cooperative Speaking-2nd

Alternate to state was Dylan Widger in Sr. Public speaking

 

Kyle Schumacher and Trey Baum also made finals in creed speaking and Job Interview. 

All other Elgin contestants earned blue ribbons in their events. 

As a chapter, Elgin was 3rd overall out of 12 schools in our FFA district.

                The Elgin Education Association will be sponsoring a book fair for students in grades Pre-K-12.

                The fair will be located in the EPS lunch room and will open on Thursday, December 17th at 3:45 until shortly before the annual Christmas concert begins. Sales will continue for approximately one hour following the concert.

Congratulations to Ingvild Bekkeseth and Dylan Widger on making the UNK Honor Choir, and to Kaitlyn Polk on making the UNK Festival Choir!  The concert for these three will be in the UNK Health and Sports Center Arena on January 25th at 6:00 pm.

Congratulations to the one-act cast and crew and sponsors on another GREAT season....3rd at districts is quite an accomplishment, especially with the great plays performed by the other schools....

Superior Actor awards were given to: Alois Warner, Zoey Bergman, Kenneth Bush, Jaime Hoefer, Ashton Evans, Katie Polk, and Taya Voborny. Great job!
