Education:
I received my Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In 1993 I completed my Master’s degree in elementary education at Wayne State College.
Job Experience:
I have taught at Elgin for 34 years.
My life:
I was born on a farm in Minnesota. Well, actually I was born in a hospital and grew up on a farm.
I have two children, Luke and Lacy.
Luke works as Executive Assistant manager at Walgreens in Hastings. He has worked with Walgreens for 5 years.
Lacy graduated from Grand Island CCC with an RN nursing degree in May. Lacy is working at Grand Island Dermatology. My first grandchild, Cael Luke, was born November 22, 2011, to Lacy and Steve. Such an exciting time.
My remaining children at home are Lucy, my golden retriever, a wonderful friend and companion, and Sadie a 'midi' daschund. She weighs 14 pounds so can't be consider a miniature!
I planted my first real garden this summer. Everything did extremely well.
My favorite things to do are walking Lucy and Sadie, and visiting my children. Two TV programs that I hate to miss are House and Grey’s Anatomy. Now that we have HGTV and the Food Network on Elgin cable, I do enjoy watching those as well. I still do a few home improvement type things but not as much as before.
Teaching goals:
My goals are to give students the skills to develop a strong foundation on which to build future learning. I raise my academic expectations each quarter and make sure students know what they are.
We emphasize a classroom community in which everyone cares about and helps each other. We do like to have a little fun once in a while too.
Having survived cancer, I have a greater appreciation of the opportunity I have to spend my days with kids.
