Post-Season Speech Night Dazzles Crowd

Major Marvelous

Take one returning team member, two somewhat seasoned, but crazy coaches, a ton of new faces , and what do you have? Sounds like a recipe for disaster, right? Not so much. You’ve got the makings for a very talented EPS Speech Team.
Audience members experienced a wide range of talents at Speech Night, which was held at 7:00 in the EPS gym. The event served as a final performance for most of the events, but another  practice run  for the state qualifying duet of Danny Smith and Ethan Fischer.
The coaches began the evening by acknowledging the efforts of the talented group. Though the team returned only one letter winner from last season, each and every member medalled at one point throughout the season. The team now boasts eleven letter winners. More importantly, however, the coaches were impressed with the growth they saw in each and every team member.
In addition to some terrific performances, a highlight of the evening was Danny Smith’s willingness to fill in at the last minute for an absent OID member.
Smith and Fischer will perform their duet Major Marvelous at the state meet in Kearney on Friday, March 23. After experiencing an up and down season with the piece, the pair worked hard on tweaking it to prepare for districts. Their efforts netted them a third place finish at the competitive meet in Ewing last week.

Also performing at districts and missing state qualification by one placing were Tyler Smith with his Entertainment speech on Tim Tebow and the OID team of  Danny Smith, Tyler Smith, Ivy Prater, Juliana Dunn, and Ashlyn DeWald. Both events placed fourth by an extremely narrow margin. Hunter Thramer delivered her best performance of the season in Serious Prose and earned an Excellent Rating in the process. The duet of Ivy Prater and Juliana Dunn, known for bringing audience members to tears, earned a Superior Rating. The OID team of Ryan Meis, Christopher Bush, Hunter Thramer, Bailey Carpenter, and Allison Koenig (our lone conference medalists) also earned a Superior Rating at districts.
The speech team would like to thank everyone for their support this season. It has been a fun and competitive season full of much learning. Best of luck to Danny and Ethan. Regardless of the outcome, we know they will make EPS proud!
