FFA Members Send Range Boards and Crops to State Fair
Members of the Elgin FFA Chapter submitted numerous range boards and a couple of other crops to the 2014 Nebraska State Fair. Members, for the most part, members worked in groups of two to create a board. All Range Boards were 36" x 36" & 3/8" thick. Mounted range plants, excluding invader
plants, must have been on the list of important range plants in the Nebraska Range Judging Handbook. Mounted range plants must include roots, stem, and head.The exhibit must show the name of the exhibitor, chapter, and each range plant shall be identified as follows: common name, scientific name, forage value, season of growth, and life span. Members that worked on boards were: Jon Meis, Trey Baum, Dylan Behnk, Taven Cameron, Austin Kallhoff, Trent Bauer, Christopher Bush, Liz Selting, Miles Schrage, Taralyn Baum, Grace Henn, Marie Meis, and Nicki Payne. All boards recieved purple ribbons and two were blues. Jon Meis also took soybeans from this years crop and Trent Bauer submitted a sheath of alfalfa. They both recieved blue ribbons.
