"Speech"less Students Perform Pantomimes

Students  in class recently spent two days of class time not talking.

While most people assume that Personal Communications class is all about delivering speeches, the course really entails much more.

Before they begin writing and delivering speeches, they must first understand what the communication process consists of.

During this portion of the class, students spend time studying nonverbal communication--all those ways people communicate without the use of words.

To demonstrate the importance of clear nonverbal communcations, students became mimes for the day. They quietly performed provided skits and then even created their own scenarios.

They learned just how carefully and clearly they need to communicate their ideas when words are taken away.

With paralanguage work and children's stories next on the agenda, they are sure to be back to their noisy selves soon.
