The Elementary Art students recently completed 200 hand made Valentines to send to hospitalized veterans. Grades 2-6 started working on their hearts before Christmas vacation and finished up when they returned.

Mrs. Heithoff took page from Theanna and created several patriotic Valentines
Some students created the traditional Valentines in pinks, reds and purples while other students opted to create patriotic hearts. Theanna had come up with the idea of a patriotic heart last year and a lot of students opted to create more this year.
The Valentines will be shipped to Mrs.Heithoff's sister in Phoenix, Arizona. Mrs.Christine Studley works at the Phoenix VA hospital and will distribute the Valentines to the veterans at the hospital.
The Fifth Grade showing off their Valentines for Veterans
Below is a message from Mrs. Studley on how much the valentines were enjoyed.
"The valentines were well received. In the clinics, veterans were pinning them on their shirts.
All inpatients were smiling and well pleased, as was the staff.
Got several pictures of staff members.
We ran out and the flu clinic was upset because they didn't get any for their vets.
But wards 4c telemetry, spinal cord clinic, and surgical wards taken care of as well as the
Diamond clinic, gold clinic, our clinic (pain management) and cardiology.
Thank you and your school so much.
Chris Studley"
(Just wanted to add that all of the staff pictured with the Valentines are veterans themselves. Because of priviacy rules patients cannot be photographed. Mrs. Heithoff)

How very cool!! Since they ran out for all the vets and staff maybe next year all the students could do one (or two) next year during a study hall. What a great Civics lesson or community project.
