EPS OID Places 4th at State Speech!

The EPS Speech Team returned with some medals from the State Speech Championships at UNK on Friday.

The OID team of Christopher Bush, Alois Warner, Kenny Bush and Jaime Hoefer captured fourth place of the eighteen teams that qualified in the event at the D2 level.

The team placed 2nd in their first preliminary round with a score of 48/50. In the second round, they placed 1st with a perfect score of 50/50.  In the finals round, they placed 4th overall.

Lisa Dohmen missed the medal round by one place, earning 7th in Humorous Prose.

Superior Ratings were earned by the following at the state contest:

  K. Bush and Ethan Fischer in Duet, Warner and Zoey Bergman in Duet, Tyler Smith in Entertainment, Dylan Widger in Poetry and Paige Nichols in Entertainment

Morgan Carpenter earned an Excellent Rating for her Humorous Prose.

Coaches Stacy Shumake-Henn and Jessie Reestman had nothing but words of praise for their speech team.

"We are so proud of these kids. They have done everything we have asked of them this season, and they were very successful as a result. They are also just extremely talented."

That success included a championship plaque at a regular season meet, a conference runner-up finish, and a district championship. They were contenders in a number of meets throughout the season as well.

"This has just been a terrific season for us," said the coaches. "This is the largest number of events we've qualified for the state contest thus far, and we are all very proud of that. We know that anything can happen once we reach the state level, so just getting there is an accomplishment."

The coaches also had special words for their seniors.

"We just can't say enough about Christopher, Lisa, Ethan, and Tyler. They have been a part of our program all four years, and their dedication and leadership are extremely impressive. They have worked hard and made us laugh a lot. We will miss them dearly."
