Duet and OID Earn Medals in First Speech Outing

Kenny Bush and Alois Warner brought home the gold in duet acting.

On Wednesday, January 27, the EPS Speech Team opened their season with the Howells-Dodge Invite.

The team delivered several impressive performances, with many narrowing missing finals.

Alois Warner and Kenny Bush were crowned champions in duet acting. They placed first out of twenty-six duets.

The OID of Dylan Widger, Morgan Carpenter, Leslie Linares, Lydia Behnk, and Kira Widger earned 6th place medals. They competed against twenty-two other duets.

Superior ratings were earned by the following:

Alois Warner, Kenny Bush, Zoey Bergman, Taya Voborny, and Jaime Hoefer-OID; Katie Polk-Serious Prose; Taya Voborny and Zoey Bergman-Duet; Dylan Widger-Poetry; Lydia Behnk-Humorous Prose; Kira Widger-Poetry; Jaime Hoefer-Serious Prose;.

Shelby Dohmen earned an excellent rating in Humorous Prose

Coaches Jessie Reestman and Stacy Shumake-Henn were pleased with the day's performances.

"It was nice to finally get out and compete. That first meet can sometimes be a little rough, but the judges' ballots and just the experience itself are always helpful in terms of  making necessary adjustments for future meets."

They were especially pleased with getting two events in finals.

"This is a pretty big meet with a lot of big schools. The boys earning first place is a testament to the hard work they have put in, so that was nice to see. It was also great to see one of our OID's have some success, as we have several members in that group who are new to the event."

The coaches also had words of praise for the whole team.

"Everyone had a great first day, and they represented EPS well. We are proud of their efforts."

The team's next meet will be Friday, February 12 at Lindsay Holy Family

The OID team of Morgan Carpenter, Leslie Linares, Dylan Widger, Lydia Behnk, and Kira Widger earned 6th place medals.
