ELGIN EAGLES MARCHING SEASON
LIONS CLUB PARADE
The Elgin Marching Eagles traveled to Norfolk for the Lions Club parade on Saturday, September 24th. The parade began at 10:00 am and was the same route and format as the annual Lavitsef parade has been each year. The crowds seemed to be about the same size and enthusiastic when bands went by. This years’ lineup included 21 bands marching from Class AA to Class D schools.
There were 10 bands in the D division this year. Osmond has an outstanding marching band program and has been the band to try to beat for many years in Class C and now in Class D. Osmond won this year picking up first place with Randolph coming in second. Elgin Public had a good job performance and the crowd commented that the band sounded great. I don’t know what place we received. The results don’t tell all of the places, they list the total points scored for the top and bottom bands. I was proud of the students’ efforts. Congratulations band!!!
HARVEST OF HARMONY PARADE
October 1st was our last parade for the Elgin Eagle Marching Band season. We traveled to Grand Island for the annual Harvest of Harmony parade that day very early as the parade begins at 8:30 am. It was televised on NTV out of Kearney (an ABC affiliate) – this is a new station televising the parade. You can watch the parade on this website: www.nebraska.tv under news – harvest/harmony – class D bands. You can also check out the new website that will include information about each band, each town and queen candidates before and after the parade day. Visit the site at: www.harvestofharmony.tv
We were #193 in the parade this year and marched behind the Friend High School Marching Band. We were marching through the parade route at the end of the parade – Grand Island Sr. High Band was the last band right behind us. We placed 25th out of 41 bands – a marked improvement over last week’s parade. So hope you kept an eye on the screen and cheered for the Marching Eagles! Or better yet….you came to Grand Island and enjoyed all the festivities that the Harvest of Harmony has to offer!!!
