Fall To St. Francis in D2 East Semi-Final Game

11/15/08--With a 29-28 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter, it looked as though the Eagles may have a chance to make a return trip to Lincoln for the D2 Title game at Memorial Stadium. The weather conditions were perfect (not arctic cold) for high school football in Nebraska and there were many on hand for this classic. The final score did not reflect the closeness of this game. Most in Nebraska gave the Eagles little to zero chance in this game. Led by a resilient senior playing back-up quarterback, the Eagles came to play...and for 3 periods, the Flyers were given all they could handle. In the fourth quarter, the Flyers were able to capitalize on 2 turnovers and as time ran out, the Eagles dream of another title run fell just short. On Thursday, November 20th, the St. Francis Flyers will play Ewing in the D2 Championship game. Ewing fell to the Eagles on October 24, 2008. The D2 title game will kickoff at 10:30 a.m. and can be watched on ETV.

With a final record of 11-1, the Eagles will always wonder what might have been. The senior class of 2009 will be remembered as one of the best football classes in Elgin football history and the Eagle football team of 2008 as one of the best in D2 in 2008 and at Elgin Public School. The Eagles left it all on the field and provided a kind of excitement that we will all remember for many years. Thanks for the memories Eagles! WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!
