The kindergarten Art class began printmaking for the first time. We discussed how printmaking works and that it is used in t-shirt design, wallpaper and gift wrap design to name a few. We chose bugs for our theme and the students looked at pictures of bugs as well as toy bugs. After drawing their bug they taped their design onto a piece of foamboard (Styrofoam) and traced the design onto the board. After removing the paper the board is ready for printing.

Time for cleanup. But wait, you can't wipe off a table with a wadded up ball of paper towels...
They have to spread the towel out so they can use their whole hand to wipe with

They roll ink onto the board and then lay it on a piece of paper. They rub the back of the paper to make sure it adheres to the ink. The student carefully pulls the print off of the board and places it on the drying rack. They get back in line and print again. They should be able to print 5-10 prints. Click on the photo corners to view the process. When we're all finished I'll add photos of the finished prints.
