LIONS CLUB PARADE

It was a beautiful day for the Elgin Marching Eagles to travel to Norfolk for the Lions Club parade on Saturday, September 22nd.  The parade began at 10:00 am and was the same route and format as the annual Lavitsef parade has been each year.  The crowds seemed to be about the same size and enthusiastic when bands went by.  This years’ lineup included 21 bands marching from Class AA to Class D schools.

There were 10 bands in the D division this year.  Osmond has an outstanding marching band program and has been the band to try to beat for many years in Class C and now in Class D.  Osmond won this year picking up first place with Wausa coming in second.  Osmond also received the Judges Choice as Best Band in the Parade with 93 points (the highest score of any band).  Elgin Public had a good performance and the crowd commented that the band sounded great.  I don’t know what place we received.  The results don’t tell all of the places, they list the total points scored for the top and bottom bands.   With 3 rehearsals per week for the band and some of them interrupted with students gone for other activities, I was proud of the students’ efforts.  Congratulations band!!!

Thanks to Connie Kinney and Char Carpenter for all the fantastic pictures!
