What Do Soybeans, Corn, and Wheat Have in Common?

Showing the many products or foods that contain crops from the Midwest region.

What do soybeans, corn and wheat have in common?  The third graders learned that they are all crops raised by farmers in our very own Midwest states of the United States.  The third graders were asked to find a product or food in their house that contained one or more of the crops raised in the Midwest region.  Did you know that soybeans, corn or wheat are in the following household items or foods?

  • baby cereal
  • blueberry muffin mix
  • shampoo
  • Little Debbie Fall Party Cakes and Nutty Bars
  • cornbread mix
  • peanut butter
  • pop tarts
  • sugar cookie mix
  • Wheat Thins crackers
  • bread
  • tortillas
  • Dove body wash

They discussed how there are probably many, many more products and foods that contain soybeans, corn and wheat. The third graders discovered how important Midwest farming is to the United States and other countries.
