Capitol Forum in Lincoln on March 27th

Today six Elgin Public School students (Jack, Nick, Maddie, Keyera, Corbin, and William) took part in the Capitol Forum. They participated in discussions with 19 other schools and their students about 5 different topics: Nuclear Proliferation, Climate Change and the Environment, International Trade, Terrorism, and Immigration. The students then were given the opportunity to present an "option" or a way to solve the problems posed by these topics. They were able to give these presentations in a large group setting at a hearing room in the capitol. They had lunch with Barry Dekay's administrative assistant. The students were also able to present a poster summarizing their theme they developed for the Capitol Forum as a class. To end the day, they listened to a presentation from Governor Jim Pillen and a few members of congress.

Way to represent Elgin, kids! 🦅
