Entrepreneurship Students Launch T-Shirt Production with Perkins-Funded Press

Students in the Entrepreneurship class are turning ideas into action this semester thanks to new equipment purchased through Perkins funding. A recently acquired heat press is already making an impact, allowing students to design, produce, and sell custom apparel as part of their hands-on business experience.

The class recently created EPPJ Wolfpack long-sleeve shirts using the new press. From brainstorming designs and selecting materials to operating the press and inspecting final products, students are involved in every step of the production process.

“This has given our students real-world experience,” said Amy Selting  “They aren’t just learning about business concepts — they are applying marketing, budgeting, pricing, design, and production skills in a meaningful way.”

Through this project, students are gaining valuable business and financial literacy skills. In addition to learning the production process, students are learning how to track and manage inventory, calculate input and material costs, and determine appropriate pricing to ensure profitability while remaining competitive.

The Perkins-funded equipment allows students to:

  • Design custom apparel using digital tools
  • Calculate production and input costs
  • Track and manage inventory
  • Determine product pricing and profit margins
  • Practice quality control
  • Develop marketing strategies for school events

Looking ahead, the class plans to expand its product offerings. With the addition of a Canon camera also purchased through Perkins funds, students will be able to take high-quality photos and create custom buttons. This expansion will provide even more opportunities for students to apply entrepreneurship principles while meeting school and community needs.

The photo attached features Jaydalynn Chessmore and Haley Parks, two students in the Entrepreneurship Class, proudly modeling the EPPJ Wolfpack shirts created using the new press — a visible example of creativity, teamwork, and entrepreneurship in action.
