January 13, 2021, 6:30 PM

 

Supt. Mike Brockhaus called the regular January meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.  Board members present were Eric Beckman, Ron Bode, Steve Busteed, Todd Heithoff , Luke Hinkle, and Lisa Welding.  Administrators present were Superintendent Mike Brockhaus and Principal Greg Wemhoff.

 

Supt. Brockhaus led the “Pledge of Allegiance.”  He also reminded everyone that a copy of the Nebraska Open Meetings Law was posted in the meeting room.

 

School board meeting notice complied with Meeting Notice Policy #204.07.

 

Luke Hinkle and Eric Beckman took the Oath of Office.

 

Mr. Brockhaus asked for nominations for board reorganization.  Lisa Welding nominated Steve Busteed for board president.  Todd Heithoff seconded the motion.  Lisa Welding motioned that nominations cease, Ron Bode second and a verbal acclamation vote was held.  All voting Aye, motion carried.

 

President Busteed then took over the meeting and asked for nominations for Vice President.  Heithoff nominated Lisa Welding for the position, Ron Bode second.  Bode moved that nominations cease, Heithoff second and a verbal acclamation vote was held.  All voting Aye, motion carried

 

Welding nominated Ron Bode for Secretary and Heithoff seconded the nomination.  Welding moved that nominations cease, Heithoff second.  A verbal acclamation vote was held and all voted Aye.  Motion carried.

 

Welding then nominated Heithoff for Treasurer and Bode seconded the motion.  Welding moved that nominations cease, Bode second and a verbal acclamation vote was held.  All voting Aye, motion carried.

 

Heithoff motioned and Welding seconded to designate the Official Depository of Funds as the Bank of Elgin and/or Great Plains Bank of Petersburg, the Legal Newspaper as the Elgin Review and/or the Elgin Public School Newsletter/Website, the Bus Inspector as Jonny Dodge and Precision Repair, the Superintendent as the Chief Financial officer and the District's Non-discrimination Compliance Officer and the law firm of KSB School Law as School Attorney.  Vote 6-0, motion carried.

 

Luke Hinkle motioned and Eric Beckman second to approve the Consent Agenda: #5- Minutes of Regular Meeting, #6- Adopt the Agenda, #7- Financial Report, #8- Board Bills. Motion carried, vote 6-0.

 

President Busteed recognized visitors and asked if the patrons had any comments. 

 

Principal Wemhoff presented his report of school activities.

 

Supt. Brockhaus reported on Covid guidelines and upcoming vaccines.  Teacher inservice in Norfolk on Jan. 18th has been cancelled so a teacher inservice is being planned in Elgin.

 

Discussion was held on continuing the current Supt. & School Board Evaluation tools.  These will remain the same.

 

Welding motioned, Hinkle second to approve 2nd Reading of Staff Conduct with Students 402.15; Employee Injury on the Job 404.02; School Closure Under Extraordinary Circumstances 404.13; Addressing Barriers to Attendance 503.04.  Vote 6-0, motion carried.

 

Heithoff motioned, Welding second to approve the bid of Dana F. Cole & Company as school auditor for school year 2021 ($10,200) school year 2022 ($10,700) and school year 2023($11,200).  Vote 6-0, motion carried.

 

Welding motioned, Bode second to set the board retreat date as June 15, 2021 after the regular 7:30 p.m. meeting.  Vote 6-0, motion carried.

 

Bode motioned, Beckman second to approve the refinishing of both gym floors at a cost of $2,700.  Vote 6-0, motion carried.

 

Discussion was held on accepting closed bids for the old school pickup.  Sealed bids will be accepted until February 1st at noon in the Supt. office.

 

Hinkle motioned, Heithoff second to approve FFCRA Covid sick leave days for employees until March 31, 2021.  Vote 6-0, motion carried.

 

Heithoff motioned, Bode second to approve a Teacher Early Retirement application from Mrs. Deb Beckman.  Vote 6-0, motion carried.

 

Welding motioned, Beckman second to approve combined prom with Pope John High School on March 20th.  Vote 6-0, motion carried.

 

Discussion was held on building projects, the head football coach opening, and purchase of band uniforms.

 

Motion by Welding, second by Hinkle to adjourn the meeting.  Vote 6-0, motion carried.  The meeting adjourned at 7:53 p.m.

 

The next regular board meeting will be held February 10, 2021 at 6:30 PM at the EPS Lunchroom.
