Science fair is a success!

Audience participates in hands-on activities!

April 01, 2008

The annual Elgin Public science fair was recently held in the school gym.  This year it boasted 28 projects from students ranging in levels from 7th grade Life Science to chemistry and physics.  Many students designed projects that allowed visitors to actually take part in the experimentation.  Guests were impressed by the students’ knowledge of not only their experiments, but also the research that went into the preparation process.

Nathan and Allen use the mechanical advantage of a first class lever to calculate visitors' weights.

The guest judges assigned presentation grades for each group and also chose the top finishers.  Though the goal of a science fair is choosing a topic of interest and learning more about it, certain projects deserve recognition for their outstanding efforts.  The top two junior high projects and the top three high school projects will be recognized at the awards night this spring.

Mrs. Walsh and Ms. Rethmeier would like to send out a big thank you to everyone who helped to make this night possible, especially our judges:  Jill Bates, Shelley Bode, and Ted Rethmeier.

There were so many great pictures of the event, but I could only choose three for this page.  Please view the slideshow to see more action from the science fair!
