President Heithoff called the Special July 21st, 2008 Elgin Public School Board Meeting to order at 6:00 PM. Board members present were Steve Heithoff, Stan Heithoff, Laurie Waterbury, Mary Bauer, Bruce Anderson, and Scott Beckman. Staff members Barb Bode, Shirley Thorberg, and Paula Jensen were in attendance, as were Principal Fisher, and Dennis Morgan of the Elgin Review. Dr. Fredrickson was absent due to illness.
President Heithoff reminded everyone that a copy of the Nebraska open meeting law was posted in the meeting room.
School board meeting notice complied with Meeting Notice Policy # 204.07.
Purpose of the special meeting was to visit with and interview possible candidates, if hiring someone to serve as interim superintendents is necessary, or to assist EPS in preparing the 2008 /2009 budget.
Mr. Rob Ziegler and Mr. Lee Hall visited with and answered questions from the board and staff members.
Waterbury moved to enter closed session to discuss the possible hiring of an interim superintendent to protect the public interest and prevent the needless injury to the reputation of an individual, and that no individual has requested a public meeting. Anderson second. Motion passed on a 6 to 0 yes vote.
President Heithoff then restated the motion to enter closed session to discuss the possible hiring of an interim superintendent to protect the pubic interest and to prevent the needless injury to the reputation of an individual, and that no individual has requested a public meeting.
The board and staff members entered closed session at 9:05 PM to discuss the possible hiring of an interim superintendent.
The board returned to open session at 10:47 PM.
No action or decision was made at this time.
Stan Heithoff moved to adjourn the special meeting at 10:50 PM. Anderson second. Motion passed with a 6 to 0 yes vote.
