Elgin FFA Members Earn American FFA Degrees

Elgin FFA American Degree Winners and Dr. Larry Case National FFA Advisor

LOCAL STUDENTS RECEIVED NATIONAL DEGREES

INDIANAPOLIS -  Clayton Hensley, Paige Redding, Travis Sprout, Steven Bartak, and Ross Becklun all received the American FFA Degree at the 81st National FFA Convention in Indianapolis on Saturday, October 25, 2008.  It is the highest degree awarded by the National FFA Organization and recognizes these young adults demonstrated leadership abilities and outstanding achievements in agricultural business, production, processing and service programs.

Less than one in 150 FFA members advance through their local, chapter and state FFA degree programs to earn this national degree.  Clayton Hensley is the son of Karl and Margaret Hensley and is currently a junior majoring in Agricultural Education at South Dakota State University.  Paige Redding is the daughter of Jim and Chris Redding and is a sophomore majoring in Animal Science at South Dakota State University.  Travis Sprout is the son of Craig and Merry Sprout and is currently a sophomore majoring in Agricultural Systems Management at South Dakota State University.  Steven Bartak is the son of Gary and Mary Bartak and is a sophomore majoring in Agricultural Systems Management at South Dakota State University.  Ross Becklun is the son of Brian and Pam Becklun and is a junior majoring in Wildlife Management at South Dakota State University.

            These young adults are members of the Elgin FFA Chapter and their agricultural education teacher and FFA Advisor is Philip Simpson.

            These Elgin FFA members received gold American FFA Degree key and a certificate in a blue leatherette frame to commemorate the achievement.  The recognition program is sponsored by Case IH, The Farm Credit System Foundation and Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. and Syngenta, as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.  The national FFA convention is the nation’s largest annual youth gathering, welcoming students, parents, and educators from all across the United States.
