2011-The First Day of School
As always everyone has been busy preparing for the start of the new school year. Returning staff and students will notice many changes in the facility itself. The office (Paula and Mr. Dennis) has been moved down to the former 7th grade room. Mrs. Bode and Miss Meyers who had their classes in that room went over to Ms. Rethmeier's room (former 8th grade room). Ms. Rethmeier travelled up the steps to the old office. Mr. Feeney went from his office to the career lab ( which had been the principal's office in the seventies). Mrs. Bode moved down to Mr. Feeney's old office and last but not least, our bookkeeper, Anney Beckman, moved to Mrs. Bode's old office. Besides moving everyone around we added in new tile and carpet in the gym entrances and cafeteria, the new playground equipment to keep everything looking good at Elgin Public.
We may have moved a lot of classrooms around but we kept most of our staff. Our only new staff member this year is Mrs. Julia Schwartz who will be teaching ag classes and sponsoring the local FFA chapter. Welcome to Elgin Public Schools Mrs. Schwartz!
Mr. Feeney addressed the student body about the theme for the year is about choices and making good choices. This was followed by a Jeopardy competition between classes for a little fun. The seniors were the champions and won extra points for Homecoming spirit contest. The categories included questions about the staff and school.
Next students were off to Advisor/Advisees meetings followed by class meetings. At their class meetings they elected officers and student council members. Juniors discussed Prom and fund raising while the Seniors began Senior Sneak plans. After the meetings it was it was time for classes. Students attended each class for 20 minutes. They enjoyed hot dogs for lunch before being dismissed for the day at 1:00. The year is off to great start!
