2010 Printmaking
5th Grade Printing
The 5th Grade class began printing this week. Students sketched a design that had line, texture and pattern. Some examples were animals with fur, plants, pattern designs and fish. After the design was approved the student transferred it to foam board. The student taped the design to the top of the foam board on one side only to form a hinge. The student traced over the main parts of the design with a pen denting the foam board underneath. They lifted the paper from time to time to check their progress. The students retraced over the design with a pen to deepen the lines and freehand in the details at this point.
Students referred to the purple binders, which have all of the directions necessary for the lesson. They had the option to review the directions or keep the binder out on a desk to follow step-by-step directions. After drawing their design and tracing it they began the printing process. Students will complete 15-20 prints. They will matt a single-color print, a multi-colored print and a collage composed of leftover prints. They may matt more if they choose but three is the minimum.
