2010 Christmas Trees
First Grade
The First Grade Art class finished their Christmas tree designs. Our first step in creating the trees was to discuss what shape a tree is. In our case it was a triangle. Next we discussed that trees have branches all around and not just on the sides. They practiced drawing their trees on scratch paper. The emphasis was on drawing a realistic tree with branches and not one that looked like a cookie cutter. Cookie cutter trees are okay when you're little but not when you're a first grader! After practice was complete they drew their tree on green construction paper with a color pencil.
We reviewed scissors safety and proper cutting techniques. The First grade cut out their trees and glued them onto the background. The background was made from a piece of brown paper glued to a sheet of blue to form the floor and wall. After their tree was glued on they got to decorate it!
Each student was given a sheet of star stickers to apply to their tree for ornaments. Hailey discovered that you could peel off the paper in between the stars and use it for garland! Everyone was quickly adding garland to their tree as well.
Writing their name, grade and Elgin #18 on the back of their artwork finished the project.
