FFA members submit Range Boards to State Fair
Six members of the Elgin FFA Chapter submitted range boards to the State Fair. The members were; Allison Koenig, Justine Meis, Grant Beckman, Devon Baum, Caleb Pelster, & Jared Seier. The boards were on display in the general exhibits building from September 2nd - 5th. The boards consisted of 15 different grass and forb species found on range sites from the Elgin area. Each species had to be identified by its common name, scientific name, season of growth, livestock forage value, and its life span. The boards had grasses on it such as Little blue stem, Sand blue stem, Indian grass and Scribner panicum. Some of the forbs included; Golden rod, Gayfeathers, and Annual buckwheat. Despite the boards being very similar they received blue and purple ribbons at the conclusion of the fair.
