Students Attend Business Career Day at Northeast

The Business Students who attended Career Day at Northeast

The business students in Mrs. Selting’s classes went to Northeast Community College on Wednesday, October 12 for a Business Career Day sponsored by Northeast.  Using the theme “Get in the Game”, the students participated in a variety of fun activities.  First, in the General Business session, they took part in a business trivia game. They were asked questions ranging from “Who has the most wins in the World Series?” to “What do you do before cashing a check?”.  Then Elgin students were sent to different sessions.  In the Accounting session they played Monopoly, in which they had to keep track of their own finances.  In the Information Technology group, they experimented with a program called Alice, which allows students to try programming their own virtual world.

The second part of the day, the students took a tour of the campus and had a “Game” themed lunch of hot dogs.  Following the conclusion of the tour, students went back to the Cox Activities Center Auditorium for a closing ceremony with prizes handed out at random.  Ashley Bode was a big winner, winning a new 4GB MP3 player!  Overall, the students had an enjoyable learning experience about Northeast and business careers they could go into.
