2012 Niobrara Valley Conference Art

A Dark and Stormy Day

Christian's Sculpture

The 7-12 Art students competed in the annual Niobrara Valley Conference Art show and earned a total of 113 ribbons.  The show was hosted by Lynch Public Schools.  Students loaded the van and headed to the show at 7:30AM on Friday, April 27th in the rain. The categories students could enter their work in included; Black and White Drawing, Pencil Drawing, Colored Drawing, Design, Printmaking, Photography, Painting, Mixed Media, Fibers, Sculpture, Pottery, Collage/Assemblage, Multicultural/Ethnic/Heritage and Miscellaneous. The students were responsible for not only creating their artwork but also for prepping the work for the show.  Every student must make sure their work is matted, framed, has hangers on it and a completed tag.  Any work not properly prepared for the show is not entered.  Students who choose to attend the show are responsible for hanging and taking down all artwork the day of show.

Once the work has been hung and displayed, students may earn a Purple ribbon or Judge's Merit Award for Outstanding work, a Blue for Superior work, Red for Excellent, Yellow for Commendable or Green for Honorable Mention work.  Judging this year's show was Jim Taylor of Stuart and Teri Schacht of Orchard. While the judges were busy judging the students had the opportunity to draw in the cafeteria and then watch  the movie "John Carter" at the local theatre as it rained and thundered. After the movie we took down the work and made journey back to Elgin.  It rained the entire trip home.
