2015 Winter Trees

Second Grade

The Kindergarten, First and Second grades recently completed painting winter trees in Art class. The students began their winter scene by tearing a piece of white paper in half.  They glued this to a piece of gray paper to form snow on the bottom of the page.

Next the students were given a demonstration on how to paint a tree with watercolor or tempera depending on grade level.  They started at the bottom of the tree trunk by pressing the brush down flat on the paper.  As they went up the page or tree trunk they started to lift their brush to make a narrower brush stroke and a smaller tree branch. The branches branched out in a Y formation to simulate how actual branches form on a tree.  After their tree dried the older students added snow on top of their branches and snow flakes.  They used a cotton swab to dot on the snowflakes. And the winter scenes were complete. They added a black mat to finish off the project.
