Square Root Day

4-4-16 is Square Root Day- the number of the year is the square of both the day and the month.  It's a rare, humorous, and a very nerdy holiday (which is why we love it).  There are only nine of them in a century.  Ron Gordon, a teacher and mathematician in California, came up with the unofficial holiday.

The 4th, 5th, and 6th graders invited parents to celebrate in our classroom by drinking root beer out of square glasses, eating square treats, and playing math games.

Go to http://www.squarerootday.net to learn more.

The website says other things for folks to do on Square Root Day:

It's a good day to...get things squared away, try to fit a square peg into a round hole, go square dancing, tie a square knot, travel on Route 66, root for the underdog, eat a square meal, cut vegetable roots into squares (well, cubes) for a square root stew, or watch the pigs root around.  You could even watch a Spongebob Squarepants marathon!  Or more simply, just tell a friend about it!

Check out the pictures of our day.
