'Twas the Week Before Christmas--EPS Style

‘Twas the week before Christmas and all around the school
The English students were working diligently for first semester was almost through.
So many concepts to remember so many skills they had to learn
They could see the light at the end of the tunnel and for that freedom they so very much yearned.

The Seniors were engrossed in vocabulary, scholarship letters, and literature review
There would be no free time in 1st and 5th periods, thanks to their fearless leader, Mrs. Shoe.
And because of the tremendous workload, some of them were probably wishin’
That they could re-enact the events from their most recent novel, Killing Mr. Griffin.

The Juniors were nearing the end of the plight of the Salem witches
Though a grisly turn of events, their dramatic performances in class kept us in stitches.
Rounded out by vocabulary and some grammar for the ACT
Mrs. Shoe was happy to hear some of them exclaim, “Common Writing Errors is exactly what we need!”

The Sophomores were some angry elves as they finished up Of Mice and Men.
Learning that in the midst of a novel they should never consult Facebook ever again.
For a fellow enthusiastic reader had posted emotionally--inadvertently spoiling it for many
His evening status update, “Seriously, George  . . . did you really have to kill Lennie?”

The freshmen were finishing up Animal Farm and preparing for the final test
With vocabulary and summary writing, they were just as busy as the rest
After a friendly letter review, they drafted “Dear Santa” letters to ask for gifts
And as long as they continue to get their work done on time, I hope he brings them what they wish.

Creative Writing was . . . well, being creative and publishing some genius writing
Endless hours were spent preparing for the classroom brag book we are compiling
But before I turn them loose, I have one more lofty vision
They will soon create parodies of Clement C. Moore’s poem, “Twas the Night Before Christmas.”

And now that student brains are full and the halls will soon be empty
The teachers can rest assured that these pupils will ultimately be ready
Bring on MAPS, PSAT, ASVAB, ACT and NeSA
But for now have a Happy Christmas and a restful holiday season!
