The 2013 EHS Alumni Banquet was held in the KC Hall

The 2013 Elgin High School Banquet was held on Saturday, June 22, at the KC Hall in Elgin.  A total of 107 alumni, spouses, and guests from all over the United States attended the 7 p.m. banquet.
Prior to the banquet an open house was held at Elgin Public Schools.  Laurie Schindler Waterbury, Class of 1980, served as the master of ceremonies.  Darline Durre Warner, Class of 1986, gave the prayer and then L Bar B Steakhouse of Clearwater served a delicious meal of chicken breast and baked steak.
Following the meal, EHS Superintendent Dan Polk was introduced along with the 2013 alumni committee. Bessie Nissen Hawks, Class of 1929, was recognized as the oldest alumnus present, and she was presented with a plant.  Also introduced were the Kinney family members who were all present to celebrate their honored years: Phyllis Kinney Lawson (1943-70 yr.), Dick Bennett (1963- 50 yr.), Lana Kinney Bennett (1968- 45 yr.), Gwen Taylor Kinney (1973 – 40 yr.) and Josh Kinney (1993 – 20 yr.).

Bob Conger, class of 1946, entertained the group with a song. Mr. Polk shared information about himself and his family and made us laugh with his humorous stories. He also provided information about the past school year, improvements and future activities. Recognized were the 5 year classes of 1938, 1948, 1958, 1968, 1978, 1998, and 2008.  The honored classes and their speakers were 1943- Donna Payne, 1953- Dale Carter, 1963- Charles (Chip) Miller, 1973- Marcine Pierce, 1983- Bob Hoefer, 1993- Brad Clark, 2003- Kara Kruntorad Connealy and 2013- Angela Richart.
The alumni awarded $500 scholarships to three members of the class of 2013.  Receiving scholarships were Andrew Heithoff, Cordell Waterbury, and Angela Richart.  The Honored Alumnus Award was presented to 1962 graduate Mildred (Millie) Iburg Mundorf for contributions to her school, community and society.  Amber Mundorf Davis, class of 1993, accepted the award on behalf of her mother.
During the business meeting, the 2012 Alumni Minutes and 2012 Financial Reports were reviewed.  Waterbury shared that the committee would purchase two picnic tables for a commons area behind the high school, if there was no objection by the alumni. She also told the alumni that the committee had purchased a space on the Q125 Elgin Monopoly board that would be produced and sold in the near future.  The cost was $150 for the space.  Barb Bode, counselor and entrepreneur teacher at EPS, has requested that alumni send in their business cards to her so she can share with her classes how successful EHS alumni have become.  The 2014 EHS banquet will be held on June 21st to coincide with Elgin’s Q125 celebration. This is the third Saturday of the month instead of the 4th. The banquet will be held in the EPS Gym.

Receiving the Honored Alumnus Award for their mother (Class of 1962), Millie Iburg Mundorf were her daughters Amber and Tricia
The banquet concluded with the school song which was led by Robert Conger, class of 1943.
