While schools are here to help children grow and learn, home is truly where a child can develop the love of learning.

Here are some recommended Activities for at Home to help your child in Reading:

Choose a strategy this week to try with your child.  Next week, you may want to try a different strategy. Thank you for investing in your child’s reading development!

  1. Make reading a part of every day, even for just a few minutes.

  2. Read to your child each day. When the book contains a new or interesting word, pause and talk about the word with your child.

  3. Discuss the meaning of unknown words, both in print and spoken.

  4. Set aside a time each day for your child to read independently.

  5. Choose books that are at an appropriate reading level for your child.

  6. Let your child see you reading.

  7. Ask your child questions about the story as you read together.

  8. Visit your local library.
